In 1895, two years before Henry Flagler built his famous railroad that allowed much of Florida’s East Coast to be developed, a former Civil Way major by the name of Nathan Boynton discovered the area that now bears his name. He was so impressed by the natural beauty, year round sunshine, and pristine beaches that he decided to return with a group of colonists and build a hotel as his family’s summer home. Produce abounded in the area, such as mangoes, pineapples, tomatoes, and all kinds of citrus, which were shipped via the newly completed Florida East Coast Railway to appreciative consumers all over the country. Soldiers returning from WWII discovered that Boynton Beach was a terrific place to raise a young family, and the rest is history!
